Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa –Significant Investor Stream (188C)


This is a 5-year temporary residence visa for those who intend to become designated investors in Australia. Applicants who have lived in Australia for 2 years within 3 years can apply for permanent residency.

Application requirements

* Successful application: temporary residence

* Target: People with financial strength

* Age limit: No age limit

* Rating requirements: None required

* Asset requirements: Total net assets reach AUD5,000,000 or above, and will be invested in Australia.

* Business background: No business background required.

* English proficiency: no requirement

* Nomination: Invited by individual provinces or Austrade

* Investment requirements: Within 30 days after receiving the investment notification, you need to make a qualifying investment of at least AUD5,000,000 and continue to invest during the temporary residence visa period:

1) 20% of which will invest at least AUD1,000,000 in funds that support Australian innovation and small private enterprises: venture capital and growth private equity funds;

2) 30% of which shall invest at least AUD1,500,000 in managed funds of Australian stock exchange (ASX) listed companies;

3) The last 50%, invest at least AUD2,500,000 in balancing investment into managed funds.

*Visa validity: 5 years of temporary residence

Apply for permanent residence: During the 4-year period of holding the 188C temporary residence visa, if the main applicant has lived in Australia for at least 40 days in total each year, or the spouse has lived in Australia for at least 180 days in total each year, he or she can apply for 888 permanent resident status.

  • 6. While waiting for approval, your family needs to undergo a physical examination and obtain a clean criminal record.
